Small Business Partners Program

The Small Business Partners (SBP) program supports small businesses by providing pro bono, virtual consulting services, group and one-on-one coaching sessions curated to address the concerns and needs of small business owners.

Business Advisors

Advisors are volunteer HBS Alumni who want to share their knowledge and experience with small and medium businesses and connect with local entrepreneurs.

Business Owners

Small and Medium Businesses (SMB) with a minimum of 2 years of operation and $2 million in revenue seeking advice, funding, support from successful business advisors. 

Business Advisors

As part of the Small Business Partners program, Alumni Advisors provide advice on the following:

 

  • Planning, Strategy, and Finance
  • Sales and Marketing
  • Operations
  • Organizational Communication and structure 

Participation in the Small Business Partners program as an Advisor is a benefit of membership with the HBS Association of Boston.

                     Meetings are on Tuesday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12PM -2PM

  • Once a date is set, advisors will confirm their attendance and review applicant materials before the session. They will listen, ask questions, advise business owners, and submit final evaluations at the end of the session.
  • Within 90 days of the session, interested advisors may follow up with business owners to see how they implement the suggestions and ask them to provide feedback on their experience. 
  • Advisors will share the feedback they receive from business owners with SMB Partners. 

Small/Medium Businesses

As Part of the Small Business Partners program, businesses receive the following:

  • Advice on supply chain management & procurement, service operations, support functions, and lease negotiation and renegotiation
  • Support with marketing and advertising strategy, brand and customer strategy, pricing strategy, and sales strategy
  • Operations help regarding budgeting and forecasting, cost control/reduction, financing strategy, joint ventures and alliances
  • Advice on organizational design, leadership and talent acquisition, culture development or culture change, and performance evaluation and reward

Meetings are on Tuesday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12PM -2PM

  • As a business owner, you will submit an application containing your business portfolio, and you will receive a response within 5-7 business days. 
  • If your application is accepted, the next step is a two-hour session to identify and clarify the problems, and prepare you for your presentation to the group of advisors.
  • Once your presentation is ready, you will know the date and time to meet with your advisors. During the session, they will listen to your business problems, ask questions, and provide advice. Be prepared to provide feedback at the end of the session.  
  • Within 90 days of your presentation, interested advisors may follow up with you to see how the business implements the recommendations, evaluate the results, and ask you to provide feedback on your experience.

Businesses must be: 

  • Located in the New England area
  • Established business that has generated at least $2 million in sales
  • In business for a minimum of 2 years 
  • Owner managed, working full time
  • Has a plan to grow or expand
